Dennis Edward Roberts

The family of Dennis Roberts regrets to announce his passing at Bastion Care Home on April 2 at the age of 70. Thank you to all those in the medical community who provided him with care and comfort during his last difficult years.

Dennis was born on August 15, 1953 at Barrhead Alberta, the third oldest son of William and Mary Roberts, and one 12 children. Dennis lived the first 14 years of his life on the family farm near Barrhead. In 1967, the family moved to Revelstoke, followed by a further move to Salmon Arm the next year. He chose to enter the workforce before he finished school and worked at various occupations, including driving delivery truck, millworker, logging, construction, and finally working at what was then Newnes Machine, involved in the making of sawmill equipment. It was there that he suffered a career ending back injury. He then became fully involved in volunteering with various causes or groups. He was instrumental in development of the original facilities at the newly created Blackburn Park. He later took over the announcing duties for ball games at major tournaments and was well known for his good-natured ribbing of players, umpires and spectators. Later, he spent many hours volunteering with ground maintenance at the Roots and Blues Festival. He also helped out with the announcer duties at the Demolition Derby. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when asked. Dennis also enjoyed travels throughout the U.S., especially in his motor home.

Dennis was predeceased by his mother and father as well as sisters Mary, Mona, and Theresa, and brothers Bill and Ron. He is survived by Pat (Kathy), Maureen, Eileen (Darrell), Jim (Barb) Sheila and Kevin.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 15 at 1pm at Bowers Funeral Home.
